English camp 2008
English camp 2008

The English camp was a huge success

In July, the Bötzow-Viertel (Prenzlauer Berg) family center team had additional support from 32 volunteers from seven German federal states and three other nations, to be able to run the Summer English Camp at FESB Prenzlauer Berg location.

The one-week-camp offered numerous possibilities for the children to brush up and to improve their English language skills – games, music, drama, and topical instruction in small groups. The main theme of the English camp 2008 was the world of NARNIA, based on the opening of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian in German movie theaters.

The children practiced reading and writing in English as a matter of course while participating in creative activities according to their fields of interest: the sports group learned how to play American football, the cooking group tried recipes from the Narnia series (Turkish honey!), the choir rehearsed under the direction of a professional singer, and the karate club met a black belt champion. A daily camp newspaper covered the highlights, and of course the reporters also wrote their articles in English only.

All parents and curious friends were invited to join us for a family day on Saturday and ardently admired the results presented by the project groups. The camp ended with a barbecue and joint games.

The English camp 2008 was a huge success: Everyone was able to improve his English noticeably during that week and the team work with the volunteers from the United States was simply fantastic and great fun. At the end everyone agreed that the week had gone by much too fast.

See you next year at the summer English camp 2009!
