Our lantern party

On November 12, 2008, our flex-classes had their annual Saint-Martin-procession.  Parents, students, teachers and care-center teachers assembled in the school yard where tables had been set up for a pot luck meal, while a mixed brass and vocal band entertained the crowd.

After joining in several songs, accompanied by the trombone band of the evangelical Kirchengemeinde am Humboldhain church, the colorful crowd with their hand-made lanterns moved on to the playground “Marie”. After forming a circle, everyone stood and listened to the words of Mr. von Preußen. After that, every other child got a roll that he was supposed to share with another child. This tradition symbolizes Saint Martin sharing his coat. A few more songs and the crowd was ready to head back to school, where they were greeted by lovely music performed by the mixed brass and vocal band. This successful and pleasant evening was rounded off in the school yard by cookies, fruit, cake, and hot cocoa for all.
