Flea market and summer party to celebrate our double anniversary: 20 years of the elementary school, 10 years of the junior high school

The Free Evangelical Schools Berlin e.V. has a double anniversary to celebrate this year: 20 years of the elementary school and 10 years of the junior high school. The first elementary school was founded 20 years ago, in 1988. The junior high school exists since 1998. One year later, after years of changing locations, the elementary and junior high school moved to their present location on Christburger Straße 14 in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg district. By now the ensemble of land-marked buildings is owned by the FESB association. In 2006, the state-recognized Arche-Grundschule in Hellersdorf and Immanuel-Schule in Spandau were opened under the umbrella of the FESB e.V.

At present, approximately 500 students attend our schools, and we have 106 employees at the three locations. In 2006, all of the final year students left the FESB with their secondary school level certificate. One year later 96 percent of the students successfully graduated from 10th grade. The total average in Berlin is only 80 percent.

20 eventful years at the FESB - enough reason to celebrate: Therefore we will host a variety of events this year. Two of them will take place in the near future:

• Flea Market on June 21, 2008, schoolyard on 14 Christburger Straße, 11:00 a.m – 6:00 p.m.:
The main purpose of this event is to provide an opportunity for people from our neighborhood to get to know each other and us and to start communicating; and of course to “rummage” as well. Everyone is welcome to reserve a booth, we only ask for a donation of € 10 and a cake or salad to keep the flea market cost-neutral. As an independently operated school our financial means are limited. A possible surplus will benefit the children and teens. It will be used for a PA system for the auditorium.
• Neighborhood Summer Party on July 5, 2008, schoolyard 14 Christburger Straße, 3:00 – 10:00 p.m.:
Instead of hosting a typical school-internal party our objective is to include the people from our neighborhood in our festivities. In the afternoon we offer plenty of activities for children (all of them free of charge): game course, trampoline, face painting, juggling, water volleyball and lots more. Starting at 5:00 p.m., there will be a party for teens with a beach bar, a DJ, alumni café, barbecue, …

We sincerely hope that these two events will make the people in Prenzlauer Berg more aware of us and will help them learn a lot about our schools.
