History: 20 years of FESB

Join us on a journey through 20 years of FESB history.

1988

The FESB becomes the smallest elementary school in our city when it is founded with 20 students and one teacher in Berlin’s Wedding district.

The photo on the right shows the very first 1. grade with home room teacher Ms Popendicker.

1993

The elementary school, which by now has 81 students in 5 classes, is awarded state recognition.

1996

We are growing: The FESB now has an after school care center and for the first time two classes in the first grade of 1996.

1998

The junior high school is founded. For the first time, FESB elementary school students can move on to our “own” junior high.

1999

The move of our elementary and junior high school to Christburger Straße has crucial ramifications – now there is again only one class per year. Our “new” school building on Christburger Straße was built in 1898 and is now under monument protection.

2002

Our junior high school is awarded state recognition and the first FESB graduates celebrate the successful completion of secondary school.

2003

The new start was successful: We have three classes in the first grade of our elementary school again. Yet the financial strain caused by the move and partial renovations of the school building persists.

2004

For the first time, our students, staff members and friends raise money for our school by running. The charity run has the purpose to raise money for a soccer field and turns out to be a great success. From now on, it will take place on regular basis.

2005

The signing of a heritable building right contract secures our school premises at Christburger Straße for the next 40 years.

2006

At the beginning of the year, the general meeting of the FESB association commissions the executive board to start negotiations with the public authorities in order to obtain approval for two new elementary schools. Already at the beginning of the school year in August, the Immanuel-Schule in Spandau (top) and the Arche-Grundschule in Hellersdorf (bottom) open.

The elementary school on Christburger Straße has its first class for a mixed-age-group of students (JÜL). In this class, students from the first and second grade study together in the same classroom.

We also buy a property next to our school premises on Christburger Straße: A new building will be built that will house a cafeteria, additional rooms for the after school care center, as well as a small day-care center especially for our staff’s children.

2008 - 20 years of FESB

We celebrate anniversaries: 20 years of the elementary school and 10 years of the junior high school on Christburger Straße.
